About Us

We are a club based in The University of New South Wales focused on teaching people how to make games. Throughout the year, we host workshops on game development and events straight from the industry.

We aim to bring together students interested in creating any aspect of video games, whether they be programmers, artists, animators, writers, music producers, or graphic designers.

Activities

We hold events teaching you how to create video games, even if you have no prior experience!

This is a collaboration space in-person at UNSW Kensington, Sydney, that run regularly every week during the term.

Our events are mainly intended for UNSW student, staff, and alumni. However, external interested game developers aspiring or experienced are welcome to join too!

To find out when our next event is, please check out our Discord Server!

Our tradition is to run a biannual game jam open to all UNSW Students. Put together your ideas, code and assets together for a chance to win some fabulous prizes such as water bottles, IEMs, keyrings, and even cash! Even if you are unable to participate, join us at the subsequent showcase events right after to play the submissions for yourself and have a great time with free food.

Game entries are only open to current students of UNSW.

You can find more information of the next or current Game Jam on our Discord Server!

Do you want to show off your game at major expos such as PAX Aus and SXSW Sydney? We can help you with that!

Game Development Society has been exhibitors at both conventions where we can showcase your games and help kickstart your professional career. This is the greatest contribution we currently deliver that sets us apart above existing UNSW student clubs. And we don't pick on how good your game is either, nor will we tell you we can't help you because it would be "unfair to those who had to learn by themselves" (seriously another club said something along the lines of that).

Submissions are only open to UNSW Community members, which include current UNSW student, staff, and UNSW Alumni (graduated students).

Check our games from PAX Aus 2024 here!

To apply, please join the SXSW Subcommittee through our Discord Server!

Travel with us to Melbourne or Japan via our intercity and overseas trips to show off your game in a foreign place!

We will help get your game in conventions beyond our Sydney home for a chance to globally network with new developers and industry professionals.

UNSW Community members and connected individuals, which include current UNSW student, staff, UNSW Alumni (graduated students), and friends/family of those parties can join. Current full Arc Members may be eligible for a discount under selected trips.

Our Community's Games

Here are some of the video games created by our students, staff, and alumni with passion! We're developers that handcraft our own work, not idea guy "managers" making others do the work for us. Click on the icons below to learn more about the games! You can also play games made for our previous game jams through the below buttons too.
